Spock was unaccustomed to being idle.

Her duties aboard her own Enterprise were difficult and numerous, often occupying the vast majority of her time. She had become acclimated to the constant torrent of work, and the sudden, distinct lack of it was...staggering. Without it, she had devoted her time to the methodical study of the ship, the individual environs, the alternated sections, the various settings, and the informational networks available to her.

As it was, she'd exhausted most reasonable details and, in turn, a vast majority of her patience. Without alternative scientific activities, Spock was left to decide what she wished to do. She had taken copious field notes within the confines of the Mess Hall. She was not in need of food, at current, and her notes were in need of sorting. It would not behoove her to take more, nor to visit that particular environ.

Perhaps exercise would help to clear the impatience that hovered in her veins.

Spock resolved herself to physical activity and left her assigned PADD in her similarly assigned quarters. It was not long before Spock located the gymnasium. Her blues were ineffective as exercise garb, so it was fortunate that spare garments were provided within the allocated dressing area. Properly outfitted, Spock took to the slow, sequential motions of ke-tarya.

"I assure you, I desire to learn them, I personally need an outlet like that. Anything that will get me to be exhausted and meditative would be extremely useful."

She paused before she continued, a bit taken aback that the Vulcan had called herself Spock, since Winona was only aware of male ones. "Pleasure to meet you, Spock. I'm Winona Kirk. I must say though, I only know of male Spocks, and not a female such as yourself."

"You are not alone in your lack of awareness," Spock responded evenly. Indeed, it seemed that everyone on board reacted in exactly the same fashion upon meeting her. Though she disliked the classification, she was well aware that she was likely to become the female Spock. "Nevertheless, I am Spock.

"If you would step alongside me, Winona Kirk," Spock prefaced and motioned to the space to her immediate right. "I will readily instruct you on the basic forms of ke-tarya."

Winona stepped beside Spock with a sigh, shrugging. "It not to say that's a bad thing, in fact I would probably prefer you to the Spock from this universe."

"Consider me your willing student, Spock."

"You hold distaste for the native Spock?" Spock prompted evenly as she took the initial position of the most basic sequence. With her arms held tight and her body turned just slightly, Spock paused to look at the blonde beside her.

"Please take initial position."

"Just a small amount, not enough to where I can't stay in the same room with him, but enough to where I choose not to respect him, an act I can do since he does not outrank me and the fact that I'm old enough to be his mother."

Winona looked over and mirrored the position Spock was in. Hers was a bit more loose, but still controlled in her own manner. "Is this correct?"

From: [identity profile] science-blues.livejournal.com
Spock regarded her form very carefully. For her first attempt, it was a very reasonable facsimile of what Spock was demonstrating.

"Your right elbow should be approximately two inches from your side. As you will abduct it from your body in a lateral motion, the proximity permits an easier rotation of the limb." Spock broke stance to demonstrate and resisted the urge to correct her stance physically. "Otherwise, your position is most acceptable.

"Might I inquire as to why you do not respect the native Spock?"

"There are things you should never bring up with certain individuals and there are certain levels of conduct that a Starfleet officer should uphold. The native Spock brought up my husband's death on the U.S.S. Kelvin in an academic hearing and on the ship prior to my son gaining captaincy of it, put my son in a choke hold. That is why I fail to see the need to respect him."

Winona smiled slightly as she moved her arm in the way Spock demonstrated. "A Vulcan informing me that my position was acceptable, what a lovely compliment. Shall we go on?"

"Curious," Spock commented idly. She had heard very little about the native Spock, though these two factors appeared to be distinctive. She could not judge the nature of the hearing from such a brief description, but the violent act Winona Kirk had referenced was without situational forgiveness. That he had choked the human rather than merely incapacitating him indicated an aggressive motivation.

Spock decided to let that particular subject lapse. She would investigate it more thoroughly later.

"You are...the mother of the native Captain Kirk?" Spock asked as she moved back into the initial stance and progressed to the second motion. As indicated, her arm rotated in tandem with her right leg, preparing for a forward step.

"A compliment is merely a statement of fact with a positive connotation," Spock stated evenly. "It is simple to bestow them when presented with such positive subject matter. Please move to position two."

From: [identity profile] kirk-winona.livejournal.com
"Quite, considering most Vulcans are a bit more controlled, even if baited." She knew it was possibly wrong to judge the Vulcan on those two acts, but despite some people's assumptions, she truly did love Jim and to have Spock do that to him was a bit much.

"As much as he likes to deny it, or merely call me the woman who gave birth to him, I am indeed his mother." Winona answered moving into the second position carefully.

"Logical. I'm glad you see me as a positive subject matter. You're not that bad of one yourself."

Spock arched an eyebrow and cocked her head to the side to better view the blonde woman. "Perfect."

"Pardon my secondary query, I meant no implication," Spock stated as she stepped forward cleanly and swung her leg around, halting in third position. "I was merely curious. You do not appear to be of a significant enough age."

"Please execute the motion and move into position three," Spock requested genially.

"I take no offense, it's an entirely logical question to ask me, considering I did call him my son." She paused and smirked ever so slightly. "I do like hearing that I don't appear to be 51 though. Always good to hear that from someone other than George and Chris."

Winona attempted to watch the other woman's reaction as she stepped forward and swung her own leg around. "I'm still doing acceptable?"

"Quite," Spock assured her placidly. "Your form is impressive."

Spock pivoted back on her left leg and swung low. As she completed the fourth motion, she held the extended position for several moments before she regarded Winona Kirk. "The final motion is a strike, designed, theoretically, to shatter the heart-plate of the victim. You must execute it forcefully or the extension will be ineffective."

"If I may inquire," Spock continued as though her lesson was not interrupting the flow of conversation. "Who are George and Chris? I will not be convinced that you have three children."

From: [identity profile] kirk-winona.livejournal.com
"Keep telling me that and I may blush, Spock."

Winona took a deep breath and focused, repeating the motion that Spock had done with as much force as she could muster. "Forceful enough for you, ma'am?"

"Well, you'll have to be convinced that I have two since that's true, but those are my, for lack of a better phrase at the moment, once, present, and future lovers. Although, we're a bit lacking in the lover part at the moment though."

Her execution was appropriately energetic, if not precisely on form. Spock regarded her final position with careful scrutiny. Without hesitation, the Vulcan set her hand on Winona Kirk's shoulder and gently ushered it downward. Her hand lingered, as she assured that the limb was in place, and she stepped back.

"Close. You deviated from form, but have done impressively for a first attempt," Spock informed her. "As to your lovers, that is unfortunate.

"To have such a complex designation and discard it through technicality, as such," Spock clarified evenly. "Your footwork is quite exemplary. Would you care to attempt the full sequence?"

Winona couldn't stop the grin from forming on her face as Spock ushered her shoulder down, keeping her hand on it for longer than necessary.

"Well, you are a good teacher." Winona commented before addressing the rest of the sentence. "Quite unfortunate. Because it's not fair having those two in bed and not getting to have any sex."

"Though, it not truly discarded, just very hard to describe at the moment." Winona nodded slightly. "I would love to."

"Your praise is unnecessary, but appreciated," Spock stated as she fell into initial position next to Winona.

"It is an awkward difficulty you face, one that I can only hope you find remedy for," Spock continued and arched a brow at Winona. "Please take initial position and progress forward from there at your own pace." Spock execute the four motions seamlessly and paused as she reached the final position. As she drew herself back up, she watched the blonde closely.

"I only speak the truth." Winona smiled as she watched Spock fall into position.

"I hope I find one as well. And soon." Winona eyed the arched brow curiously before arching her own. "I can do that." Winona took a breath before she executed the move as gracefully and as correctly as she could, eyeing the Vulcan slightly.

"Most adequate." Spock inclined her head in recognition of her achievement and folded her hands behind her back as she righted herself. "Though you overextend your step, and under extend in the final position."

"Again, perhaps? Slowly," Spock requested evenly.

The urge to smirk came back as she could have sworn she had heard those words being uttered in different circumstances. "I suppose I could." Winona slowed down her motions, allowing Spock to see just how she was doing the motions, and just how her body moved.

From: [identity profile] science-blues.livejournal.com
Spock watched her as she initiated the first position and began the sequence. Though the motion of her form was appreciable, Spock had not been fallacious in her critique. As Winona reached the first step, Spock extended a hand and pressed it against her shoulder, halting her motions.

"Keep your leg perpendicular to your Iliac crest," Spock instructed. "You are abducting it far too severely. Though your range is impressive, it is not helpful to the form. You may injure yourself."

From: [identity profile] kirk-winona.livejournal.com
There was that hand on her shoulder again. Winona stopped, before looking at Spock with a frown. "I'm not entirely sure how my leg would be that way, it'd be helpful if you moved it for me to make sure I'm not injuring myself with my range when I move it."

That Spock managed to keep both her brows from lifting was rather notable. After a brief pause, Spock inclined her head and removed her hand from Winona's shoulder. That same hand settled against the human's hip, just above the line of her shirt. The other pressed against Winona's thigh, just above her knee and pulled the extended leg inward, decreasing the distance it was abducted from her torso.

Once Spock was satisfied with the arrangement, she casually regarded Winona. Her hands lingered. "If you maintain this level of extension, you are less likely to dislocate your great trochanter."

From: [identity profile] kirk-winona.livejournal.com
"Which is very good thing indeed. We wouldn't want me to dislocate that." Winona eyed Spock's lingering hands with a bit of amusement, contemplating asking her to remove them. She decided against actually voicing her request, instead settling for an arched eyebrow as if to ask Spock what exactly she was doing.

From: [identity profile] science-blues.livejournal.com
Spock answered her eyebrow by arching her own. The nonexpression imparted a lightness to her features that almost reflected amusement. The information imparted, Spock stepped back, and dropped her hands to her sides.

"If you would continue," Spock requested politely.

Winona chuckled slightly before nodded. "It would be my pleasure."

Starting from the position Spock had put her in, Winona moved to complete the other motions with a smile still gracing her features, waiting to see if Spock was going to stop her again for extending in an incorrect manner.
